BUCK DRIGGERS JOINS TWDC AS VP OF RESIDENTIAL SALES & DEVELOPMENT - R. E. "Buck" Driggers has joined The Woodlands Development Company (TWDC) as vice president of residential sales and development. Driggers has extensive experience in the sale and acquisition of residential and commercial real estate in large master-planned communities. He was most recently associated with Newland Communities as vice president of sales at Stonebridge Ranch in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. When he took over the sales efforts in Stonebridge Ranch in 1999, the 5,000-acre community rose to the #1 selling community in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for six straight years, and was consistently among the top three in the state.

At TWDC, Driggers is responsible for negotiating and executing land sales to home builders, along with planning and executing strategies for community development, including site selection, product segmentation, market analysis and budgeting. Driggers holds a B.B.A. degree in Petroleum Land Management and Marketing from the University of Texas at Austin . He and his wife, Elle, and their children, Abbie, age 13, and Jake , age 9, plan to reside in The Woodlands.

CB&I TRI SET FOR THIS SATURDAY, MAY 5 - One of the premier multi-sport events in the region - CB&I Tri -The Woodlands -   is set for this Saturday, May 5 beginning at 7 am. Now in its fourth year, the event offers high-caliber competition, first-rate race management and a scenic course. This year, CB&I Tri-The Woodlands has been named the USAT SMW State Championship Race. The 2007 race will feature a field of 850 participants, which is an increase from last year's 650. Last year's participants ranged from beginners to nationally ranked tri-athletes. The 2006 event sold out a month before the race with over 100 hopefuls trying to get in after registration closed. This year's event sold out on April 2.

Participants are drawn to the event because of its reputation, great volunteers and ideal location. The picturesque race route takes triathletes around The Woodlands community through Market Street, Town Center, along The Woodlands Waterway® and through wooded neighborhoods past cheering spectators. These attractions earned the event the "Top 10 in the USAT South Midwest Region for sprint distance triathlons" in 2004. The event culminates with a festive awards party with music, food, beverages and door prizes. ROAD CLOSINGS DURING CB&I TRI - On Saturday, May 5 from 5:30 am - 10 am, the following roads will have the outside lane closed to auto traffic:

  • Lake Woodlands Dr.:   Westbound, 2005 Lake Woodlands Dr. to Gosling Rd.
  • Gosling Road:   Northbound, Lake Woodlands to Research Forest Dr.
  • Research Forest Dr.: Eastbound, Gosling Rd. to Six Pines Dr.
  • Six Pines Dr.: Southbound, Research Forest Dr. to Timberloch Pl.
  • Timberloch Pl.: Westbound, Six Pines Dr. to Grogan's Mill Rd.
  • Grogan's Mill Rd.: Southbound, Lake Woodlands Dr. to Woodlands Pkwy.
  • Woodlands Parkway: Westbound , Grogan's Mill Rd. to Lake Woodlands Dr.
  • Lake Woodlands Dr.: Eastbound, Woodlands Pkwy. To Six Pines Dr.

KAREN HOYLMAN TO SERVE ON BOARD OF TEXAS' LEADING EMPLOYER ORGANIZATION - Karen Hoylman, president and CEO of the South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce, was recently appointed to serve on the Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Business (TAB) , the state's leading organization for employers. Hoylman fills a two-year leadership position that began in January. Founded in 1922, the TAB is a broad-based, bipartisan organization representing more than 140,000 small and large Texas employers and 200 local chambers of commerce.

"TAB is thrilled to have Karen as a part of our leadership team," said Bill Hammond, TAB president. "The more involvement from our members, the more effective we will be in championing free enterprise, a healthy business environment, and economic prosperity for all Texans." Hoylman has been president and CEO of The Chamber since 1997. The Woodlands Chamber's 1,400+ member companies represent South Montgomery County and The Woodlands area as well as companies from the Conroe, Greenspoint, Galleria and greater Houston areas.   Under her leadership, The Chamber was named the "Hometown Hero Company" for 2005. The Chamber is frequently ranked #2 on the Houston Business Journal's "Largest Houston-Area Chambers of Commerce".


THE WOODLANDS MALL PARTNERS WITH THE CHAMBER TO PROVIDE LOCAL INFORMATION - In an ongoing effort to make local area information more accessible to visitors to The Woodlands Town Center , the Customer Service Center at The Woodlands Mall will be staffed by a representative from The South Montgomery County Woodlands Chamber of Commerce beginning Tuesday, May 1. The program, which is being offered with support from Town Center Improvement District (TCID) , is the second Chamber Information Center in Town Center, according to Connie DeGuerre, information center manager for The Chamber. The other Information Center is located at Market Street . The main office of The Chamber is located on Woodloch Forest Drive and Woodlands Parkway

"It has been a long-time goal of our Chamber to have remote locations that can provide information to residents and visitors during the non-typical hours such as nights and weekends," said Karen Hoylman , president and CEO of The Chamber.

From Sunday, May 6 through Saturday, May 12, The Chamber is inviting visitors to Customer Service at The Woodlands Mall to register to win a Mother's Day Gift Basket. No purchase is necessary; visitors simply need to stop by the week before Mother's Day to register. The drawing will be held on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 13. The Customer Service Center is located in Center Court on the lower level near the escalators. The Chamber will staff the Customer Service Center during mall hours, Monday through Saturday from 10 am-9 pm and on Sunday from 11 am-7 pm. Mall personnel will continue to offer shopping center information at Customer Service.


THE WOODLANDS HIGHLANDERS WRAP UP FIFTH DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP - The Woodlands High School Highlanders Baseball team has wrapped up their fifth consecutive district championship, and the 10 th in 12 years. They also completed a second-straight undefeated season last Friday night by defeating Magnolia 6-2 at Scotland Yard. The win was the 29 th consecutive district win for the Highlanders.   The Woodlands will now face Spring in the first round of the playoffs this week. The best-of-three series begins Thursday night and will continue Friday night, with the third game (if necessary) being Saturday.   All games will be played at Tomball. The games will also be broadcast on BOB FM, 105.3 and on the web at www.ktwl.com .


104.1 KRBE RADIO TO PROMOTE PROJECT YOUTH - Several students from The Woodlands High School and The Woodlands College Park High School will be representing Project Youth on Thursday, May 3 on 104.1 KRBE radio . The live on air promotions will take place between 8 and 8:30 pm on the Top 5 at 8 program on KRBE. The students will be letting listeners know that applications for Project Youth are free and you can download them online at www.project-youth.org . Project Youth is a multi-part event dedicated to helping students ages 11-18 develop a healthy and creative lifestyle while uniting the entire community.   • A local Eagle Scout candidate is working to collect 500 worn, faded and tattered American flags to retire this coming 4 th of July at a ceremony at Market Street's Red, White & Blue celebration.   If you would like to help him reach his goal, please bring your used flags to The Woodlands Homefinder Center, 2000 Woodlands Parkway. The Homefinder Center also collects used flags on a regular basis and gives them to the American Legion to be retired properly.

4TH ANNUAL CINCO DE MAYO CELEBRATION COMING TO MARKET STREET - The Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber and Market Street in The Woodlands Town Center are hosting Fiesta Universal, a community-wide fiesta to showcase Latin culture on Saturday, May 5 from 5-10 pm in Market Street's Central Park. Authentic food, art and music performances are expected to attract thousands to celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Market Street.

Entertainers include Yelba y Latin Fire jazz band , voted one of Houston's best bands for 2006, mariachis from MECA (Multicultural Education and Counseling through the Arts) Houston will perform throughout Market Street from 8-10 pm, and featured fine artist Kristian Rangel will showcase his award-winning works of art. Professional dancers from the Arthur Murray Dance Studio will delight crowds with salsa, meringue, tango and other ballroom Latin dance performances while games and activities for kids will be offered by various local non-profit groups. Latin cuisine from Café Adobe, Taqueria los Petates and others will be featured.

Scholarships will also be presented by the Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber to Conroe ISD seniors of Latin descent who are attending Montgomery County Community College or North Harris Montgomery Community College . Guests at the celebration can also enter a raffle to win two roundtrip vouchers from Continental Airlines valued at $500 each. The raffle tickets will be offered at $10. Parking for the Cinco de May celebration will be available at the Town Center Garage on Six Pines Dr. for $5. HUMANE SOCIETY'S BOW WOW MEOW LUAU SET FOR MAY 5 - Reservations are filling up fast for a fun evening in a tropical paradise, benefiting the Humane Society of Montgomery County (HSMC). John and Marcita Cook are hosting the Humane Society's 5 th annual Bow Wow Meow Luau on Saturday, May 5 in their Carlton Woods home in The Woodlands. HSMC will honor Conroe Mayor Tommy Metcalf and the Conroe City Council for their efforts to bring about the construction of a new, state-of-the-art animal shelter for Montgomery County. Ground was broken for the new facility last November, with an opening planned for late summer of this year.

The Bow Wow Meow Luau is a casual, poolside event that includes a luau reception and dinner buffet, followed by live and silent auctions and a luau raffle. Polynesian entertainment will be provided by Drums of the Pacific and will feature hula lessons and a fire dancer. The event is HSMC's biggest annual fundraiser. DOCS FIESTA SET FOR MAY 5 BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY CLINIC - Bring your friends and family to an Open House Fiesta at The Community Clinic, located at 101 Pine Manor Drive just behind Pier One in Wood Ridge Plaza, on Saturday, May 5 from 2-5 pm. Hosted by Doctors Outreach for Community Service (DOCS) and St. Luke's Community Medical Center-The Woodlands , this community-wide event will feature music, kids' entertainment and delicious Mexican food. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children, with proceeds benefiting The Community Clinic.

Dr. Jenna Everson , co-chair of DOCS said, "We are happy to partner with generous sponsors such as St. Luke's to present this important fundraiser for the clinic. The clinic is striving to help individuals who do not have health insurance and are subsequently going without basic medical care. We encourage the community to stop by our event and help us raise funds for this very worthwhile cause."   Established in 1996 by Dr. Joel Kerschenbaum, The Community Clinic provides free medical, dental, mental health and social services to those who are uninsured and on a limited income


THE FRIENDSHIP CENTER'S 8 TH ANUUAL ANTIQUES SHOW SET FOR MAY 5 & 6 - The 8 th Annual Antiques Show & Sale benefiting The Friendship Center and the Historic Montgomery Business Association is set for this weekend, May 5 & 6 from 10 am - 6 pm on Saturday and 11 am -5 pm on Sunday.   The event will be held in a new location in Historic Downtown Montgomery . Admission is $5 and covers both days. Verbal appraisals will be provided by well known antiques dealer David Lackey , as seen on "The Antiques Roadshow", and other local appraisers from 12 noon-4 pm on Saturday at the cost of $10 per item with a two-item maximum. Repair and restoration services will also be available on-site for glass, fans, clocks, dolls and other items.

The show is a major fundraiser for The Friendship Center, the preeminent provider of senior services in Montgomery County including Meals on Wheels , transportation and activity centers throughout the county.


7TH ANNUAL NATIONAL LEARN TO ROW DAY SET FOR SUNDAY, MAY 6 - The Rowing Club of The Woodlands will participate in National Learn to Row Day on Sunday, May 6 from 1-4 pm at Northshore Park in The Woodlands. Activities will include ergometer demonstrations, hands-on lessons on the dock, on-the-water instruction with experienced rowers, and a tour of the boathouse. DR. MARRA FRANCIS TO PRESENT FREE ABSTINENCE SEMINAR ON MAY 2 - The popular seminar by Dr. Marra Francis ( pictured) entitled, "Worth the Wait - What Every Teen and Parent Must Know" will once again be presented at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands, conference rooms A & B, located at 9250 Pinecroft on Wednesday, May 2 at 6 pm. The seminar will focus on abstinence and the possible health risks and challenges that sexually active teens could face. Dr. Francis practices with Obstetrics & Gynecology of The Woodlands and has a special interest in pediatric and adolescent gynecology and healthcare. The abstinence-based education program illustrates the alarming facts about sexually transmitted disease among youth today.
